The plant’s scientific name is Phaseolus Lunatus and its seed is eaten as a bean. Butter beans are also known as lima beans. They are kidney shaped or oval and are most often flat to spherical in shape.

Butter beans have two varieties. A larger seed which is called Lima bean, and the other is a smaller sized which are referred to as butter beans. The large sized lima variety is grown in the Andes in South America whereas the smaller variety called butter bean is grown in Mexico and theĀ  Northern Americas.

Butter beans have a dietary fiber content of 4.2g and also contain 1.5g of sugars. The fat content is only 0.8g and these are unsaturated fats which are beneficiall for the body. The protein content is 5.8g which is 12 percent of the required daily intake.

The butter beans are also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. The important vitamins provided to the body by these beans are thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin A and vitamin C. Important minerals like magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, sodium and potassium are also present in large quantities and these beans play an important role in fulfilling the daily requirement of these minerals.

    Probably it would be fine, but there are crock pot liners on the makret. (I think made by the Reynolds Wrap people) They’re supposed to keep the crock pot clean. I used one once and everything started out just fine, but after a few hours, the bottom of the crock pot broke! I had to throw away the meal just before dinner! NOT COOL!!! I had the kind that you can pull the pot out for washing. It was fairly new and had no cracks before I started. Maybe I just had bad luck, but I don’t recommend them to anyone!I would write to the company that made your crock pot and tell them that you love it and have used it so mcuh that the paint/glaze is wearing off. Who knows-they might just replace it for you to keep a customer happy. At least they would know if it was safe or not.
