One way is when I make a good old fashioned boiled fruit cake. (Yes I do class my recipe as a Healthy Food) I add 2 tablespoons of Green tea to 1 ½ cups of water, add the dried mixed fruit, dried prunes and simmer this altogether with a few other ingredients (not the Spelt Wholemeal flour or eggs) for around 10 minutes, then complete the cake recipe.
If I am making a slow cook, I also add 1 tablespoon of green tea to the recipe (no one even knows it is in the mix but me,) always add it to my curries, about 1 tablespoon, it just adds that little extra health kick! Healthy Food at its best I call it.
Also I drink it often. But why – What makes green tea so special?
The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is a POWERFUL anti-oxidant, which keeps the free radicals in our bodies at bay and helps boost the immune system.
As we all know, a healthy immune system helps us ward off serious illnesses and keeps us from picking up the nasty viruses that keep on resurfacing time and time again.
A Little more facts about Green Tea – In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG found in green tea is twice as powerful as resveratrol found in red wine, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among the Japanese and Chinese population is lower than the USA and many parts of the western world, as they drink a lot of green tea.
I could go on for pages about the benefits of green tea, but I won’t as I will bore you, however, one thing I would caution you about when using it, is do not drink it directly before going to bed, as it will keep you awake!
When buying get a good quality LOOSE LEAF GREEN TEA, that way you can add it various dishes, but more importantly, when you put the leaf tea into teapot and add water, the tea leaves have room to move around, thus giving a much better brew!
