Healthy Eating Croutons – Never throw away your Stale Bread!

Do you hate waste?

I know that I do, I have always been taught that left overs can be used and turned into something extremely delicious.

Stale Bread is no exception, After all good quality bread is healthy eating at its best why waste it?

One thing that you can do with stale bread is make Delicious Croutons, that you can add to soup, a Caesar salad or just have a bowl to snack on with a lovely glass of red or white wine.

This is one recipe for Croutons I came across the other day.

The recipe can be tweaked and tinkered with to suit your family’s tastes.

20 slices of bread, cut into 1/2″ cubes,
1/2 cup butter, melted,
1/2 cup olive oil,
1/4 teaspoon red pepper,
1/2 teaspoon black pepper,
1 teaspoon celery salt,
1 teaspoon garlic powder,
1 teaspoon onion powder,
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning,

Stir spices into butter/oil mixture. Drizzle over bread cubes, stopping to stir frequently.

Spread onto 2 foil lined baking sheets. Bake at 275 degrees, stirring every 15-20 minutes for at least one hour.

To test if done, take a few croutons out, let cool, and determine if crunch all the way through…if so, they are done.

Let cool completely. Store in airtight container until ready to use.
