What is Skim Milk?

Skim milk is basically processed milk from which the fat is entirely removed. That is why people on a diet use skim milk rather than whole milk. Whole milk has almost 4% fat whereas skim milk has only traces of fat; 0.1 to 0.3 %.

Semi-skimmed milk is also available which has 1.7 % fat. Which of the two types of milk is healthier is still a debatable issue. Many scientists argue that milk fats are essential while others are of the opinion that removing these fats does not affect the nutritional value of the milk.
